Productivity Month: How Intronis prioritizes feature improvements

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Sep 15, 2014 8:00:00 AM

One of the questions we often get in Product Management is how we decide what features and enhancements make it into a release and which do not. It’s a very important question, since the value we add to our product and the order in which we release features plays a big role in the services and protection our partners can offer their customers.

These choices all come down to determining priority: how important each feature is to our partners, the market, and our overall product vision, relative to the other features on our list. The features that are deemed higher priority are given the most attention and resources.

Intronis ECHOplatform now supports Microsoft Hyper-V 2008 R2

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Jun 24, 2014 10:08:00 AM

As you probably know, earlier this month we announced our new Intronis ECHOplatform, which puts all the tools your need to protect your SMB customers under a single solution. Intronis ECHOplatform is our answer to one of our partners' biggest headaches – the consolidation of multiple backup solutions in a single, more easy-to-manage service.

By combining file, application, and image-level protection in conjunction with our centralized management portal, our partners can now use a single platform to cover all of their customers’ data types and recovery requirements.

Spring Release '14: Hyper-V backup that works the way MSPs want

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Apr 23, 2014 9:56:00 AM

Over the course of our past few releases, Intronis has made significant strides in supporting more of our partners' surface area so that you can use a single solution for more of your customers' backup and disaster recovery needs.

A big part of this is our image backup functionality, which is the perfect complement to our best-in-class file and application backup solution, giving partners great flexibility in delivering the perfect data protection offering for each of their customers' needs.

In addition to our existing VMware backup and availability solution and the Image-based backup for physical machines also introduced in the Spring Release, I’m especially excited to release our new Hyper-V backup solution. Hyper-V support was one of our top priorities to deliver to our partners in this release for a number of reasons.

3 reasons why native VM backup is better than image-based solutions

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Jan 23, 2014 11:27:00 AM

One of the great values that an MSP can provide to customers is a boost in efficiency, flexibility, and cost savings. There are a number of ways innovative MSPs continue to propose and implement IT solutions that save their clients money and their techs time and headaches, and none of these have been as impactful in recent years as server virtualization.

Unless you’ve just stepped out of Doc Brown’s time machine (warning: we still need roads here) there’s a good bet you’ve experienced some of the benefits virtualization has to offer. These include reduced hardware costs and maintenance, ease of provisioning and configuring new servers, speed of deployment, and flexibility to grow or change a client’s environment to meet their changing needs.

Sounds great, right? Then why would you implement a backup solution that doesn’t take full advantage of all that virtualization has to offer?

There are a ton of backup solutions out there – too many to count – and a bunch of them do a great job of backing up physical servers by taking full disk images. Since virtual machines are just software versions of these physical servers, it stands to reason that they can be backed up in the same way, right?

Fall Release ’13: How we’re making Intronis even better

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Oct 22, 2013 11:10:00 AM

By Matt Kowalski, Senior Manager of Product Management

Our partners aren’t shy. And they know what they need to keep their businesses growing.

So when our Product Management team is looking for ways to continue improving our cloud backup and recovery solution, many of their ideas start as suggestions from our MSP partners. We always encourage Intronis users to click the “Leave Feedback” button in the portal or contact our support team directly with suggestions, questions, or comments, as this provides great ideas for future product changes.

With the Fall Release ’13 – due out in early November – we’ve taken a few of these requests and applied them to improvements in our web portal’s usability, functionality, and reliability. We also want to use the Fall Release to remind our partners of the lesser-known services and features that make a partnership with Intronis so beneficial, and clue you in to the ways we’ve sped up our initial backup process.

Overcome the on-premises vs. off-premises data backup mindset

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Mar 25, 2013 1:00:00 PM

By Matt Kowalski, Senior Product Manager

If you’ve been selling data backup solutions and services for any length of time, you know that more than a few customers view backups as an “either-or” option. Either they choose to back up their data on-site, or they choose to back it up off-site. Let’s consider for a moment the benefits of each.

Image-Level vs. File-Level: What’s the Real Advantage?

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Jan 31, 2013 4:26:00 PM

By Matt Kowalski, Senior Product Manager

When our Fall Release ’12 hit the market last November, I don’t know who was more excited – us or our partners.  In particular, the new VMware integration is really changing the game by allowing our partners to easily and efficiently deliver both image- and file-level backup options to their customers.

In the past, delivering image-level backup meant some of our partners were cobbling together a secondary solution to run alongside Intronis. Needless to say, that didn’t sit well with us. Our mantra at Intronis is ease of use and full functionality. We wanted to extend our solution to include image-level backup, and we’ve done just that with the Fall Release.

We decided that with many partners already leveraging VMware, we’d start there. We worked diligently to align VMware image-level backup with the other options Intronis provides, enabling our partners to easily support virtualized environments. Now they take a snapshot of an entire server, or choose to protect individual elements of a customer environment with traditional file-level backup.

The advantage of pairing an image-level backup with a more granular file/folder backup is additional flexibility and agility for Intronis partners as they work to restore customer environments with as little disruption as possible. While most recovery needs are met by our original file-level approach, when a disaster wipes out a customer environment, image-level backup can save the day – and make our partners into heroes.

I could go on for weeks sharing the scenarios for two-pronged image- and file-level backup, but the best way to learn more about our Fall Release ’12 and the VMware integration is through the Intronis Resource Center, found in the Partner Portal.

There you will also find a Quick Start Guide for the new integration, as well as detailed video training around a variety of VMware and image-level backup topics. For those partners with more questions, don’t hesitate to pick up the phone and call your account manager – they are your best source for identifying what resources can help you with your individual needs.

And please, as you take advantage of this new integration, let us know how you like it by leaving your feedback in the comments field. Also, please share your backup and recovery success stories by submitting an entry to our Intronis Hero Award — each month one winner receives a $250 Amazon gift card!

Your Ideas Make Our Online Backup Better

Posted by Matt Kowalski on Mar 16, 2012 9:33:00 AM

If there is one thing I love about working in the IT channel, it’s working directly with our partners, whether it’s through email, beta tests, or at conferences and trade shows. What I’ve observed is that the IT channel is really a giant community, willing to share ideas and improve the community as a whole. And you guys really know your stuff; the amount of knowledge and insight that I’ve gained from the partner community has been fantastic.

A great example of this insight is the feedback we get on our online backup product in our feedback forum. One discussion in our feedback forum is the branding of the management portal. Through comments posted on this item, we’ve sparked a great discussion on the most important reasons to brand the management portal, as well as hashed out a few areas of the portal ripe for branding. This is fantastic for us as it provides us definitive points to cover when we add the functionality to brand the portal. We know exactly how to deliver the right value, and our partners get insight into our thought process and status.
