With the new year comes a whole host of new threats and risks to clients' data security. To help you prepare for their inevitable questions, I'll be presenting a 30-minute Intronis webinar, called "Cryptolocker: Should you pay the ransom?", on January 16 at 1:30 p.m. EST.
Cryptolocker is one of the more widely reported strains of ransomware to appear in the last year, infecting more than 200,000 computers and grossing millions in ransom since it was identified in early September 2013.
This strain of malware distinguishes itself from basic ransomware by first encrypting all of a user's data and then leveraging a "ransom" for users to pay in order to recover their data back. And cryptolocker is not easily disabled by a savvy tech - what's encrypted stays that way unless the ransom is paid.
However, there are a few options available to those who have been infected and do not want to hand over money to criminals. One of most effect protections professionals can deploy is encrypted data backup, as we've written about on this very blog.
In our webinar, we'll provide an overview of the emerging cryptolocker threat - how it can affect your channel businesses and your clients - as well as discuss best practices for protecting your data from hackers. Additionally, our Senior Solutions Engineer, Nathan Bradbury, will demonstrate why Intronis is the best data backup solution to offer to protect your clients' data from the effects of cryptolocker.
