It is December already?
It is the month often defined by consumerism as all of us “consumers” are looking to take advantage of the highly advertised post-Thanksgiving shopping deals. It all began with the brave souls who woke up at the crack of dawn on Black Friday and headed for the stores in seek of the best deals. Followed then by Small Business Saturday, encouraging us all to visit our local small businesses. Then of course came the hugely alluring Cyber Monday, which allowed us to score deals on our favorite products without fighting those brick and mortar crowds.
For IT service providers, Small Business Saturday may have been more important for your customers. Did your customers have special promotions that you needed to support? Was their technology in place to support their sales? The good news is that participation this year was extremely high. According to a press release from the NFIB small business association, “Shoppers across the nation made a powerful statement with 88 million consumers “Shopping Small” on the day, up 14.9 percent from just a year ago.”
How about Cyber Monday Everyday?
Not to be outdone, the concept of Cyber Monday has exploded in recent years—with many retailers offering “Cyber Monday on Sunday” deals, or “Cyber Week” promotions. As expected, this Cyber Monday also saw huge participation nationwide. According to the USA Today, “Sales grew 8.5% for the 24-hour period, according to IBM Digital Analytics, solidifying Monday as the largest online shopping day of the year.”
With so many people taking advantage of Monday’s deals-of-the-day, it’s interesting to note what products were the most popular. Again from USA Today, “Walmart reported Monday was it’s biggest day of online orders ever as customers shopped for deals on the 16GB iPad mini, HDTVs, and video games, all major traffic drivers.” Although Cyber Monday saw record numbers of involvement, there are still many people that will delay their shopping until the final hour. As a result, this year many retailers are continuing to offer online deals throughout the remainder of the month.
