Less is more: Data backup sprawl is wasting your time and money

Posted by Manny Veiga on Jul 2, 2014 12:46:00 PM

Having options is normally a good thing. What's tricky is when you have so many options on your hands that it overcomplicates what should be a fairly simple process.less_is_more_sm

We're approaching that sort of reality in today's data backup environment. The IT channel is flooded with a wide variety of cloud backup vendors, and that can create administrative and financial challenges for MSPs.

Storage industry analyst George Crump of Storage Switzerland spoke to some of the challenges of deploying multiple backup solutions in one environment at the two-day Storage Decisions conference, sponsored by Tech Target.

Making Intronis your single-source data protection provider

Posted by Rick Faulk on Apr 11, 2014 12:30:00 PM

Several months ago, I took a trip to Chicago to visit with a few Intronis partners in the area. I was joined by our VP of Partner Success Jasmine Lombardi, and our goal was to re-connect with these partners and find out what Intronis could be doing to better serve them.

We learned a lot about the features, services, and support our partners want, but one message in particular really resonated with me. It involved MSPs’ need to save time and money by consolidating all of their data protection tools with one solution.

One partner put it very succinctly, saying "Give me one product… a single dashboard… the same tool that does everything."

How cloud backup can help your Windows XP migrations

Posted by Manny Veiga on Mar 27, 2014 1:00:00 PM

We're less than two weeks away from April 8, 2014 - the day when Microsoft will shut down support for Windows XP after 13 years. Our Product VP Chuck DeLouis calls this date "Christmas in April" for cyber attackers who want to exploit users who fail to upgrade to newer operating systems.

What exactly are the risks of keeping Windows XP past that date? And how can MSPs keep their clients' data safe when transitioning computers and systems to newer operating systems?

You can find the answers to both of those questions in our newly published Windows XP Expiration Tech Guide.

Best practices for managing data storage in the legal industry

Posted by Intronis Staff on Mar 25, 2014 1:00:00 PM

The legal sector has been a hot bed for technological innovation in the past decade, especially as more legal data is transferred into digital environments and formats.

Data management is one of the key aspects of legal sector IT management, and as a service provider, you should remember that the stakes are high for these clients.

But when you consider the increasingly prevalence of electronic discovery (eDiscovery) in litigation proceedings, there is certainly a market for advanced data storage and management tools in law.

Of course, as with most channel engagements, you will need to back back up these technologies with reliable support. Failure to do so can hinder an MSP's ability to sell in the field, or can lead to tarnished reputations should something go wrong.

5 reasons old data backup formats are going extinct

Posted by Intronis Staff on Feb 5, 2014 11:12:00 AM

Remember when 3-D was all the rage? The movie studios still put out 3-D versions of their big blockbusters, but the technology didn't quite take off among the movie-going public the way many people expected. As a result, the number of movies being released in 3-D are declining, and the studios spend less time trumping it up as the big technology trend.

Backup technology has also evolved. While older physical backup formats aren't entirely out of the picture, the trends favor the flexibility and security you can find with cloud backup. InfoStor Magazine described 5 factors that are making tape and other old-school backups about as relevant as 3-D glasses.

When it comes to data protection, local backup is a good start, but there are a number of risks to relying solely on physical backup drives to archive data. The cybersecurity threat known as cryptolocker is unveiling one big weakness of local backup - its vulnerability to malware and viruses, as PCWorld reported recently.

What's driving increased interest in backup and recovery?

Posted by Manny Veiga on Dec 20, 2013 12:43:00 PM

Over the past year, an increasing number of businesses have recognized the importance of backup and disaster recovery partially due to breaches that have affected even the most seemingly secure of companies.
