BYOD brings need for mobile virtualization strategies

The bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend is growing increasingly popular with companies of all sizes, allowing employees to access important documents and information while on the road or at home. In fact, according to research firm Gartner, 70 percent of employees will conduct business on personally owned mobile devices by 2018

Furthermore, Gartner predicted that by 2017, half of all employers will actually require workers to supply their own mobile devices for work, ramping up the pace of BYOD adoption across all sectors. Another 38 percent of companies will stop issuing sponsored devices to workers by 2016.

Cloud backup insights: Being a virtual BDR lifeline

As technology improves, businesses are changing the way they develop their IT infrastructure to minimize cost and maximize efficiency. A new report reinforces the idea that virtualization will continue to play a crucial role in corporate data management strategy.

TechTarget queried more than 1,100 IT managers in its Data Center and Reader’s Choice 2013 survey, finding that nearly 80 percent of respondents intend to expand their server virtualization efforts in the next year. Around 32 percent said they plan to keep their virtualization budget roughly the same in the next 12 months. 

VMware remained the virtualization platform of choice for most respondents, with 47.6 percent saying they used VMware ESXi 5 or later. Microsoft Hyper-V (2.0) R2 was a distant second choice at 11.2 percent.
